Christopher Retschulte
Associate Director/Director of Percussion
Christopher Retschulte is an Assistant Band Director/Percussion at Rock Hill HS. Christopher was formerly Front Ensemble Technician/Arranger for The Woodlands HS, in The Woodlands, TX. He was also Director of Percussion for Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio, TX and Clear Brook High School in Houston, TX. With multiple DCI High-percussion trophies, WGI gold medals, a BOA Grand National Champion, and All-State percussion students, he is highly sought after as an educator, arranger, and consultant.
Christopher holds a Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Massachusetts, where he was the teaching assistant to Thom Hannum, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. He has studied and taught with some of the best in the business, including Thom Hannum, Neil Larrivee, Jim Ancona, Jim Casella, Murray Gusseck, Ralph Hardimon, Steve Ulicny, Glen Crosby, and Dustin Schletzer.
A member of the front ensemble of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993, he has gone on to instruct numerous drum corps including Star of Indiana Brass Theater, The Troopers, Boston Crusaders, The Blue Knights, The Santa Clara Vanguard, The Academy Drum Corps, and the Madison Scouts. Additionally, he has been on staff with the University of Massachusetts Percussion Department, the University of Massachusetts Marching Band, and Thom Hannum’s Mobile Percussion Seminar. He is currently Percussion Arranger for Shijonawate Gauken High School in Osaka, Japan.
Christopher is an active composer/arranger through Tapspace Publications, and is an endorser of Pearl/Adams, and Remo drumheads.
In his spare time, Christopher can often be found on the golf course with his daughter, Lyric and wife, Andi.
