Jacob Coon

Jacob Coon is thrilled to be joining the Rock Hill HS percussion team as the electronics and front ensemble coordinator and the Jones Middle School team as the percussion para-professional! Previous to this appointment, he held the position of Assistant Band/Percussion Director at Jersey Village HS, Houston and Hamilton Southeastern HS, Indianapolis. Mr. Coon began teaching in 2009.

Specializing in program creation, growth, and maintenance, Mr. Coon promotes a focus on student-driven culture. Minooka (IL) Indoor Percussion was established by Mr. Coon and quickly became a three-time Winter Guard International Scholastic A Finalist. Following a move to Indiana, Hamilton Southeastern High School Winter Percussion earned three consecutive WGI Scholastic A finals appearances most notably finishing 4th in 2019. The group was ultimately promoted to Open Class and continues to attend WGI events. The Hamilton Southeastern Wind Ensemble was a state finalist and placed 5th in the premier classification for Indiana.

Mr. Coon holds the Master of Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL and the Bachelor of Music degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. Prior to entering full-time instruction, Jacob invested in studying live audio and studio recording, skills now standard in high school music education.

Mr. Coon is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Percussive Arts Society. Along with his lovely wife, Vanessa, Mr. Coon enjoys Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, board games, and video games of all kinds!
