Rach It, Man! Show

On Friday October 23, the Rock Hill Blue Hawk Band debuted the Introduction of their Rach It, Man! Show. Renowned composer, arranger for the Cavalier’s Drum & Bugle Corps, and Boston Pops Trumpeter Michael Martin arranged the music for their 2020 show. The Introduction, originally design to be a pre-show, opens with the front ensemble playing highlights from Elton John’s Rocket Man. It morphs quickly into a woodwind and mallet feature of Sergei Rachmaninoff, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 35 that builds into an impact with original material from Michael Martin. The directors were especially proud of the students as they learned the entire drill and music in just two weeks leading up to the Premier Performance.

Over the next two weeks, the RHB students worked diligently to add additional music & drill for the second part of their show, which they premiered at their next football game on November 13. It opens with aggressive and modern sounding music from local composer David Holsinger that morphs eventually into a party scene of Elton John’s Saturday Night. It then restates the aggressive opening with the addition of a jazzy woodwind feature that builds to a huge climax front and center.
